My work as a psychotherapist is based on trust, safety and confidentiality.
My clients and I work together to develop a therapeutic relationship that allows clients to explore difficult issues in a safe setting. I work at the client’s own pace and I tailor the therapy according to the client’s needs.
Although I am trained in relational psychotherapy, I draw from many schools of thought to complement my training. Some of this additional sources are: feminist theory, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, intersubjective theory, self-psychology, development theory, and liberation psychology. I practice from an anti-oppression framework where social context is explored alongside with personal history.
Some of the issues I work with are:
- Feeling down, overwhelmed, unable to cope
- Feeling abandoned, betrayed or disconnected from someone you have or had a close relationship with (this could be a friend, partner, or family member)
- Feeling stressed or burnout by work or family
- Feeling uncertain about your place in the world and the way you manage relationships
- Learning to say no: building boundaries in relationships
- Family of origin: historical patterns of behaviour, family structure, communication patterns, dynamics, inter-generational values.
- Difficulty in relationships: communication and negotiation, monogamy and polyamory, and dynamics of power and privilege.
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
- Ethno-racial and ethno-cultural identity: dealing with racism, dealing with feelings of displacement, isolation, assimilation and/or integration, and exploring racism in intimate relationships.
Please note that these are just some examples of the issues I work with. If there is something you are thinking about working on that is not on the above list, please contact me to discuss it and I can let you know whether I have expertise on that particular subject. The consultation is free.
